Resurfacing FAQ

Everything you need to know about pool resurfacing.

How do I know if my pool needs resurfacing?
Look for these warning signs: rough or sandpaper-like texture that irritates skin, stubborn stains that won't brush away, visible cracks or delamination (peeling), difficulty maintaining water chemistry, pitting or etching in the surface, or if your pool is 10-15+ years old. If you're experiencing any of these issues, it's time for a professional assessment.
How long does pool resurfacing take?
Most residential pool resurfacing projects take 5-7 days from start to swim. This includes draining (1 day), prep and tile work (2-3 days), new finish application (1 day), and filling/balancing (1-2 days). Larger pools or those requiring extensive tile/coping work may take longer. We'll provide a specific timeline during your free estimate.
What's the difference between PebbleTec, quartz, and plaster?
PebbleTec ($12,000+) uses natural pebbles for the most durable finish lasting 15-20+ years with a beautiful natural appearance. Quartz aggregate ($10,000+) combines quartz crystals with plaster for 12-15 year durability and a sparkling finish. Premium plaster ($8,000+) is the most affordable option lasting 7-12 years with a classic smooth white finish. We'll help you choose based on your budget, aesthetic preferences, and longevity goals.
How much does pool resurfacing cost?
Pool resurfacing typically costs $8,000-$15,000 for an average-sized residential pool (15,000-20,000 gallons). The price depends on pool size, chosen finish material, condition of existing surface, and whether tile/coping replacement is needed. Premium plaster starts around $8,000, quartz around $10,000, and PebbleTec around $12,000. We provide free on-site estimates with exact pricing.
How long will my new pool finish last?
Lifespan depends on the finish and maintenance: Premium plaster lasts 7-12 years, quartz aggregate 12-15 years, glass bead 15-20 years, and PebbleTec 15-20+ years. Proper water chemistry maintenance is the single biggest factor in finish longevity. Our Complete service plan ($350/month) includes all chemistry management to maximize your investment.
Can I resurface just part of my pool?
Unfortunately, no. Partial resurfacing creates visible seams and the new finish won't bond properly with the old surface, leading to premature failure. The entire pool interior must be resurfaced together for a uniform, long-lasting result. However, you can choose to upgrade tile or coping separately if the existing finish is still in good condition.
What happens to my water during resurfacing?
The pool must be completely drained for resurfacing. We use professional pumps to drain the water, typically directing it to a storm drain or suitable drainage area per local regulations. After the new finish cures, we refill with fresh water and balance all chemistry before you swim. The refill typically takes 12-24 hours depending on your water pressure.
Is pool resurfacing messy? Will it damage my yard?
There is some mess involved, but we take precautions to minimize impact. We use tarps to protect your deck and landscaping, and clean up thoroughly each day. The old surface removal creates debris and dust, but we contain and remove it. After completion, we pressure wash the deck area. Most customers are surprised how clean we leave things!
What payment methods do you accept for resurfacing?
We accept all major credit cards, checks, and bank transfers. For resurfacing projects, we typically collect a deposit to secure your spot on the schedule, with the balance due upon completion. Contact us to discuss the details during your free estimate consultation.
What warranty do you offer on resurfacing?
All our resurfacing work includes a workmanship warranty covering installation defects. Additionally, finish manufacturers provide material warranties: PebbleTec offers a limited lifetime warranty, quartz finishes typically 10 years, and plaster 5 years. We'll explain all warranty details during your consultation and provide documentation upon completion.
